I got to go to SXSWEdu in Austin this year. VERY different conference from TCEA, with a totally different focus. It was amazing! I got to meet Temple Grandin and had her sign a book for Zachary. Continue Reading →
I helped write the keynote and presented (with students and teachers from the Chromebook pilot we ran) at the Google Leadership Symposium hosted by BISD. We even trended on Twitter! It was an awesome experience and I enjoyed it a great deal! Would love to work for Google! Continue Reading →
I got to get another photo with educational technology guru, Alan November when we attended a training at Region XI with him. I love this guy! He’s personable, hilarious, and not afraid to speak his mind! This is my third photo (I’ve decided it’s a tradition to get a photo with him every time I see him speak…he remembered me too…so cool).
My co-workers and I headed down to Austin for the annual Texas Computer Educators Association conference last week. It was, as usual, an amazing opportunity to learn about what’s going on in the world of educational technology. It usually recharges my battery and gets me excited about what I do for a living…this year was no different! We had fun, learned a lot, and got to enjoy the Spazmatics – a great 80’s cover band who played at the Thursday night social. Too fun!
One of my favorite pictures from our field trip to the Dallas Aquarium (as part on the summer camp our department ran) was this great close-up of a sloth. We used to see them a lot when we lived in Panama. The kids were amazed that it could just hang there and completely ignore them. Ha ha!
Here are just a few of the videos from our aquarium trip with our Ocean Quest Summer Camp. Click the title of this post from the front page to view the videos.
All this week we’ve been running Ocean Quest…a camp for 4-6th graders with an Ocean theme. We’ve made origami whales, learned about echo location with a robot, participated in scientific experiments using probes and data loggers, researched and created movies about sea animals, built an inflatable 80-foot whale you could walk in, and ended our camp with a fun field trip to the Dallas Aquarium. Donny had a blast during his first day of robotics camp. He and his partner had their robot put together and were programming it in no time! I can’t wait to see them take on the really tough missions…I know they’ll do really well! Donny really enjoys programming the robots (and building them…he’s a wiz!). Continue Reading →
