Day 1 – SOJ Band Disney Trip

Like a crazy person, I chaperoned Donny’s Senior band trip to Disney. Check out Day 1 here.

We had to be at the school early (and drop our luggage off the night before so drug dogs could sniff it).

When we loaded up the buses, I wound up chaperoning on a bus without Donny and I was the only adult who chose to sit in the back (being a teacher, I know what goes on back there without supervision). I got lucky, though – while I had a seat over the wheel so the ride was a little bouncy – I had an extra large seat area and didn’t have to share a seat with anyone. This is how crowded the buses were:

It was freezing cold on our bus, and all I’d brought was a small fleece throw. I stayed wrapped up in as much as possible.

It was a long, boring trip. The wifi on the bus was out and the charging stations on half of the bus weren’t working. They assured us they’d get them working when we got to Florida. I’m glad I’d brought a charging brick to keep my phone charged. Here’s some random scenery:

We drove all night and finally arrived in Orlando. We all looked a little rough.

We were so glad to see our hotel!

Once we got everyone their assigned rooms, got them fed with a pizza party downstairs, it was time for lights out. Chaperones had assigned kids, so we did bed check on our kids every night. It was fun and a chance for all of us chaperones to get to know one another. Here’s Mr. Fox, the percussion director being silly.

Finally, we could all go to bed and rest before getting up early to perform at Downtown Disney the next day. I shared a room with another mom, who flew down to Orlando, Yvette Minor. We got along well and it was nice to meet her.

Well…on to Day 2.
